Will Poulter stuns as the “golden boy” in a new shoot for GQ Hype.

Poulter has built an impressive resumé in recent years, from comedic roles like We’re the Millers to serious roles like Midsommar and Dopesick. Coming off of a new role as Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Poulter told GQ about his experience with Marvel. He cites director James Gunn’s comedic touch in the first two Guardians films for reviving his interest in the Marvel universe.

The creation of Adam Warlock was alluded to in the post-credits scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, so four years in the making. Even though the post-credits scene made it seem like he would be the main focus in the next Guardians film, Poulter had relatively few lines in the film.

His character was a big deal in Marvel comics, as Adam Warlock was imperative to fight Thanos. Marvel chose not to include him until after the absence of Thanos. Poulter didn’t see too much screen time in Guardians 3 as he was not the central villain of the film. Fans have complained his character in the comics was not depicted in the same way in the film.

In order to play the part of a superhero in Guardians of Galaxy Vol. 3, Poulter had to transform his body. He told GQ Hype that he was able to achieve this in a healthy, natural way without hurting his own mental health.

“I was fortunate to have three guys to help me maximise my natural potential. And do it in a way that was safe and that didn’t damage my physical or mental health. I was never encouraged by anyone to go about it any other way and Marvel certainly never put any pressure on me,” he told GQ.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now playing exclusively in theaters.
