As mentioned previously, season four will focus on the creation of the HSM reunion documentary, aptly titled High School Musical 4: The Reunion, where the HSMTMTS cast acts as featured extras.

In a recently released trailer, the OG Wildcats (Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, Lucas Grabeel, and Kaycee Stroh) come out and perform their original song “High School Reunion,” complete with the “We’re All In This Together” dance moves and signature poster jump pose. They celebrate their 15-year anniversary and pay homage to the beloved drama teacher Ms. Darbus (Alyson Reed).

After performing, fans learn that Taylor Mckessie (Coleman) is now the principal of East High. More so, it is confirmed that Ryan Evans (Grabeel) is gay when he goes to his boyfriend for a mid-performance “Thank you.”

As for Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens), Troy (Zac Efron), and Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale), Coach Bolton (Bart Johnson) questions, they’ve been “silent in the group chat,” according to Martha (Stroh). Now, if Hudgens’ and Efron’s trips to East High last year were a subtle hint at what’s to come, fans may be in for a treat; but we’ll have to wait and see.

As for the current Wildcats, fans can expect a lot of drama, as in the recent trailer, newcomer Mack (Matthew Sato) acts opposite Gina (Sofia Wylie) in their performance. He plants a kiss on Gina a little too early in the scene, much to the demise of her friends and, of course, Ricky (Joshua Bassett).

On and off-camera, the Wildcats are taking in all the emotions that come with closing a chapter in life. In the series, some OG characters are seniors ready to move on from high school and into whatever life has in store for them.

In reality, the actors have sung their last songs, as this season will be the last. Back in July, HSMTMTS creator Tim Federle shocked fans when he announced the “endgame season,” when many fans expected a fifth season to follow. Nonetheless, a whole new season of nostalgia, exciting production numbers, and typical teenage angst await.

All eight episodes of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series will premiere on August 9, only on Disney+
