Lena Dunham Is Directing New Polly Pocket Movie

As if one iconic Mattel movie was enough, a new live-action Polly Pocket movie is in the works, which will be directed by Lena Dunham.

So far, only one cast member has been confirmed. Emily in Paris star, Lily Collins, is set to portray none other than Polly Pocket herself. In addition to starring, Collins will be producing the film with Dunham, and executive producers Liz Watson and Michael P. Cohen.

When the film was originally announced, Collins revealed her feelings about one of her favorite toys coming to life. “As a child who was obsessed with Polly Pocket, this is a real dream come true and I can’t wait to bring these tiny toys to the big screen,” Collins shared.

Dunham shared her inspiration behind the movie and how it has a personal connection to her. “Polly Pocket was responsible for countless hours of childhood escapism for me – Polly gave me a tiny world of magic and autonomy to narrate, so it’s pretty poetic to be tackling these same ideas now as a director collaborating with the brilliant Lily Collins, Robbie Brenner, Mattel, and MGM,” she stated. “I’m so thrilled to bring to bear both my love of this historic property and also my deep-seated belief that young women need smart playful films that speak to them without condescension.”

However, this isn’t the original Polly Pocket film announcement. Talks about Polly Pocket film was originally announced in June 2021 which centers around, “a young girl and a pocket-sized woman who form a friendship.” This is the first live-action ever created about the popular 80s toy. While fans eagerly wait for more details, the Barbie movie is playing in theaters.
