It is the season of love; whether you are taken or single, you deserve to feel cherished. Practicing self-love and self-care does not have to be overwhelming. You can do simple things to celebrate yourself. Here are five ways to practice self-love and self-care on Valentine’s Day.

Write a letter to yourself that you can open on your next Valentine’s Day

It may sound old-school, but writing to your future self can be empowering. It also has its benefits which include relieving anxiety and increasing your confidence. Take the time to create positive affirmations and declarations of love for yourself that you can one day reflect on. You can also add goals and aspirations. Your future self will appreciate having a self-love letter each year.

Pamper yourself and dress up

It is a commonly held belief that when you look good, you feel good. Everyone deserves to feel good. Treat yourself to a spa day, do your skincare routine, and do your makeup. Find your favorite outfit and put it on, even if you just plan to stay inside. You deserve to make yourself feel valued and beautiful.

Spend the day doing your favorite hobbies.

Whether you like to read on your Kindle, binge-watch movies and shows, do arts and crafts, or simply take naps, dedicate your Valentine’s Day to catering to your recreational needs. Life gets busy and is not always fun, so it is necessary to take a break from your responsibilities and do the things you love the most.

Celebrate with your girlfriends

It is no secret that throughout our lives, our partners may come and go, but our friends are forever. Dedicate your Valentine’s Day to strengthening the bonds between you and your closest girlfriends by having an intimate Galentine’s celebration. Whether it includes a movie night, a game night, or simply a gathering of your best gals, create lasting memories by celebrating Galentine’s.

Create that vision board that you have been putting off.

Although January is over, now is the perfect time to make a vision board for your year. Nothing says self-love like writing down your vision for yourself, so you have a clear picture of your goals for the year. List out both your short-term and long-term goals, and add your most inspiring quotes and favorite pictures to create your ideal vision board. Be sure to place it where you can see it to remind yourself of your “why” each day.
