Jeff Nichols’s new film The Bikeriders, starring Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, and Tom Hardy, released its second trailer, dropping in theaters on June 21.

“Freedom belongs to the fearless,” is the catchphrase of Jeff Nichols’s new film, The Bikeriders.

The film follows Benny (Austin Butler), Kathy (Jodie Comer), Johnny (Tom Hardy), and their midwestern motorcycle club, The Vandals. Viewers see the club’s transition over the years from a tight-knit community of local outsiders into a menacing gang when the original members feel like their lives are threatened. The picture is based on the true events of Danny Lyon, who was a member of the Chicago Outlaws Motorcycle Club between 1963 and 1967. Lyon published a photo collection of his time in the club, which inspired Nichols to write this film.

From the trailer, you can gather that Johnny formed the club in 1965 Chicago and named it The Vandals. It grew quickly, and Benny became Johnny’s right-hand man, while the club spent their days riding around town and gathering in their favorite bar. Years passed and the club kept growing, but the members that joined weren’t like the originals, they were uncontrollable and violent. This was a problem for Johnny and Benny—a problem they’d solve by any means necessary.

The film was originally to be released on December 1, 2023, but due to the SAG-AFTRA strike that took place, the drama was pushed back to June 21 of the following year. The first trailer came out on September 6, 2023. In anticipation of the film’s release, you can watch the trailer below.
