New Season of Grey’s Anatomy Is Confirmed
Fan favorite series, Grey’s Anatomy, has officially been renewed for 21 season.
Seattle Grace Hospital lives on; Grey’s Anatomy is the longest-running primetime medical show, premiering in 2005 and surpassing ER in 2019.
Shona Rhimes, the series creator and executive producer, tells Variety, “The loyalty and love of Grey’s Anatomy fans have propelled us into a historic 21st season, and I could not be more grateful.”
Moreover, Rhimes shared on Instagram, “Grey’s was something I made up 20+ years ago, and I am so incredibly proud that it’s been picked up for its 21st season.”
Grey’s Anatomy streams every Thursday night at eight on ABC. The following day, the episode will be available on Hulu.
Meg Marinis, Grey’s showrunner, clearly stated that the team doesn’t plan to end the series after season 20.
In an interview with Deadline, she asserts, “I’ve not been informed that this is the last season so I’m going to keep going and telling stories as long as they let me. We still have stories to tell.”
Rhimes praises, “Meg Marinis’ storytelling is a gift that continues to keep the show vibrant, compelling and alive, and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for next season.”
In addition, fans of the show remain incredibly loyal and excited about what’s to come in the new season.
Rhimes shared on Instagram, “This honestly could not be possible without you guys..caring about the stories I tell, the talented cast, writers, and crew. Wow.”

No details regarding the returning cast have been disclosed, as Grey’s Anatomy historically experiences turnover as part of its ongoing storytelling.
The main character, Ellen Pompeo, is expected to remain involved after departing as a series regular ahead of season 20. However, Pompeo’s character, Meredith Grey, continues to provide her trademark voiceover on Grey’s Anatomy.
What is season 21 about? Given the uncertain ending of Season 20, specific answers take time to provide. We’ll have to wait until the season airs to find out.
