New M. Night Shyamalan Film, Trap: Everything You Need to Know
Trap, the latest film by M. Night Shyamalan, is scheduled for release on August 9.
M. Night Shyamalan is slated to release his sixteenth film, Trap, this summer. Starring Josh Hartnett and Shyamalan’s daughter, Saleka Shyamalan, the film centers on a father and daughter who attend a pop concert where they realize something sinister is occurring.
The thriller was reportedly greenlit in October 2022 by Universal Pictures after the release of Knock at the Cabin, according to Deadline. Trap was originally slated for a post-Easter weekend release on April 5, but its release was delayed. The film will mark the two-time Oscar-nominated director’s sixth project with Universal. Their first four, The Visit, Split, Glass, and Old, have accumulated $713 million worldwide.

Filming began mid-October 2023 in Mississauga, Ontario, and concluded in December. Because Shyamlaan produces and finances his films, the production was granted an interim agreement, allowing for the project to continue production during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
Hartnett began his career on ABC’s crime drama Cracker and became a teen sensation. He went on to star in more horror-related projects such as Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, The Faculty, and O. Throughout his career, he acted in numerous leading and supporting film and television roles. Most recently, Hartnett portrayed nuclear physicist Ernest Lawrence in the 2023 blockbuster Oppenheimer. He and his co-stars received the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast.
Saleka Shyamalan is Shyamalan’s oldest daughter. She released her debut album, Seance, in May 2023. Saleka also recorded songs for Apple TV+ Original Series Servant. The program was nominated for the Golden Reel Awards and the Critics’ Choice Super Awards in 2022. Saleka has opened for acts like Boys II Men, Summer Walker, and Baby Rose. She was also a supporting act on Givenon’s Give or Take Tour in August and September 2022. She will make her acting debut in Trap.
