In her new album, Megan Thee Stallion has evolved and embraced vulnerability while remaining true to her hot girl message.

In an interview with Women’s Health Magazine, the rapper explained, “I was inspired to create this album about rebirth because I feel I am becoming a new person physically, and mentally…I’m getting into a better space with making music that is still true to myself, but also true to my message. I am very much a flower, but my flower has thorns.”

The 29-year-old is feeling like herself again following the traumatic shooting that left her with bullet fragments in her feet. In July 2020, after a Hollywood Hills party, Thee Stallion was shot by former friend and rapper Tory Lanez, who was later found guilty in December 2022. The “Body” rapper also faced a barrage of hate from the public and other artists who didn’t believe her, which heavily affected her mental health.

“A lot of people didn’t treat me like I was human for a long time. I feel like everybody was always used to me being the fun and happy party girl. I watched people build me up, tear me down, and be confused about their expectations of me,” the musician stated.

She continued to explain, “As a Black woman, as a darker Black woman, I also feel like people expect me to take the punches, take the beating, take the lashing, and handle it with grace. But I’m human.”

In August 2020, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion released the viral song “WAP,” the rapper faced criticism about the credibility of her injury. Nevertheless, she continued to work; however, behind the scenes, she was suffering. “Before I went on stage, I would be crying half the time because I didn’t want to [perform], but I also didn’t want to upset my fans,” Thee Stallion revealed.

The “Savage” rapper continued to add that she remained in a dark place until she decided to seek therapy. She also deleted social media and ended relationships that didn’t serve her. Her mental health progress inspired her to work on her physical health, and she started working out.

Thee Stallion explained, “Working on myself made me get into working out because I needed to focus my energy somewhere else. I used working out to escape and to get happy.”

Since making these positive changes, the “Hiss” rapper has embraced peace and her alone time. She mentioned that she finds solace in the shower and writes some of her best music there, so she is optimistic this will be her best album yet. She expressed, “I’m proud to still be here. I didn’t quit. I want to see myself grow and be better than I am right now. And I will. I know I will.”
