Ariana Grande hinted at a collaboration between her beauty brand and the upcoming film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, Wicked.

2024 has already proven to be a busy year for Ariana Grande, but the “we can’t be friends” singer has more up her sleeve. On April 14, the two-time Grammy winner made a surprise appearance at the ULTA Beauty Field Leadership Conference in Florida. During the panel, Grande discussed her $1 billion fragrance collection and makeup brand, R.E.M. Beauty, which launched in November 2021.

While discussing the future of R.E.M. Beauty, she hinted at a collaboration between the brand and the upcoming film adaptation of Wicked. “We’re expanding upon some of our hero products that you know and love…we have some very exciting launches coming later this year in the holiday season that may or may not have something to do with other things and projects that are coming out later in the holiday season.”

The first installment of Wicked is slated for a Thanksgiving release on November 27, suggesting that she is hinting at a collaboration between the film and R.E.M. Beauty. On her YouTube channel for the brand, the “yes, and?” singer revealed in a 2023 Q&A that she wore the brand’s products on set. “Glinda wears a couple of things. I told my beautiful makeup artist Nuria, ‘I don’t want to go into this with any sort of rules or requests. I want us to find her from the ground up… but she was like, ‘I want to use some of your products.'”

R.E.M. Beauty’s Wicked collaboration will mark the second beauty brand collaboration with the hit Broadway musical entity. On April 2, Patrick Starr partnered with Wicked on Broadway through his brand One/Size to release a limited-edition makeup collection. The One/Size x Wicked collaboration paid homage to the production’s iconography and leading ladies, featuring an eye and face palette, powder highlighter, and glitter setting spray.

Wicked debuted a teaser trailer at Super Bowl LVIII on February 11, providing an official first look at Grande as Glinda Upland, who eventually becomes Glinda the Good Witch from The Wizard of Oz. Cynthia Erivo stars as Elphaba Thropp, a green-skinned woman who becomes infamously known as the Wicked Witch of the West. The first half of the film, similar to the first act of the Broadway production, will focus on Elphaba and Glinda’s unexpected friendship and the events that unfold during their time at Shiz University, a school for magic talent.

Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Peter Dinklage, Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, and Keala Settle round out the supporting cast. On April 10, Wicked presented a new poster at CinemaCon with the tagline, “Everyone deserves the chance to fly,” deriving from the production’s showstopping act one finale, “Defying Gravity.” The cast, alongside director Jon M. Chu, spoke about their experience working on the films and presented an exclusive teaser, wowing attendees.

Though it has yet to be announced when R.E.M. Beauty will release its collaboration with Wicked, fans can follow the makeup brand on Instagram for updates as the first film draws nearer.
