Katy Perry has hinted that a new album may be on the horizon. Fans are temporarily calling it KP6. Here’s what we know so far.

Perry is teasing new music. The 13-time Grammy nominee has been suggesting to fans that her next album may be released sooner than expected. While at the Breakthrough Prize Awards on April 13, she wore a stunning black gown, but fans were more focused on her clear, miniature bag. Inside, a note with “KP6: TOP SECRET” printed in bold black ink sent fans into a frenzy.

In an interview with Extra TV on April 15, Perry addressed the speculation surrounding her sixth studio album under her stage name; “You know, just drip-feeding a little bit.” When asked if new music is coming, the “Harleys in Hawaii” singer answered, “We’ll see.”

The American Idol judge provided additional insight into her recent creative process in another interview. “I just have yet to make a record from a place of feeling really happy and whole and full of love.” She continued, “Sometimes artists are like, ‘Oh, that’s boring, you want to make music from kind of like a tougher place,’ but actually it’s very bright and joyful, like pure joy and fun and playful and celebratory and a party.”

Perry’s next project will follow her fifth studio album, Smile, released in 2020. The album’s lead single, “Daisies,” was released in May 2020. Two months later, the title track was released as a single, along with the pre-order for the album. Two days before its release on August 28, Perry welcomed her first child, Daisy Dove Bloom, into the world alongside her finacé Orlando Bloom.

The singer will be bidding a fond farewell to her role as American Idol judge after the 22 season. She signed onto the production with a $25 million salary when American Idol was revived by ABC in 2018, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Hosted by Ryan Seacrest, Lionel Ritchie and Luke Bryan make up the rest of the judging panel. A replacement for Perry has yet to be announced. In an interview with E! News, Perry stated, “I want a truth-teller. I want someone that is not afraid to tell the truth in a graceful way.”

While fans wait for additional news surrounding KP6, they can revisit Perry’s discography on all streaming services.
