The long-awaited PLL: Summer School just dropped the official trailer for season 2, which will premiere May 9 on Max.

The streaming service Max and the cast posted the official trailer to their social media accounts earlier today, giving us a glimpse of what we can expect for the exciting new killer season.

Pretty Little Liars: Summer School will follow Season 1, titled Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, viewed as a modern slasher that pays homage to classic horror films like Halloween and Carrie. It will follow the same group of five teen girls, Imogen Adams (Bailee Madison), Noa Olivar (Maia Reficco), Tabby (Chandler Kinney), Mouse (Malia Pyles), and Faran Bryant (Zaria) as a new villain in town torments them. Alex Aiono, Jordan Gonzalez, Mallory Bechtel, Sharon Leal, and Elias Kacavas will also return.

This season, hence the name, the liars are forced to attend summer school at Millwood High to move up to junior year with the rest of their grade. With a new set of love interests, regular summer jobs like a lifeguard or pizza parlor, and a whole new year overall, the girls are met with the new villain face to face, Bloody Rose. The girls receive roses in multiple scenes, which can only be from one person.

In PLL: Original Sin, it was revealed at the end of the season that the girls were being targeted because of the sins committed by their parents over twenty years ago, as well as their own. So, it will be interesting to watch it play out with a new face in the shadows and see the reveal at the end of who is behind it this time and why.

In the trailer, fans are met with a familiar face: Dr. Anne Sullivan, portrayed by Annabeth Gish. She was a huge supporting character in the original Pretty Little Liars series, where she was the therapist of the original liars (Aria, Hannah, Spencer, and Emily) throughout seasons 2 and 3. She reappears again in season 6 and is also the first to learn about Mona being A.

The original series has had three attempts at spinoffs since the finale in 2017, with no luck as the first two, Ravenswood and Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, were canceled after their first season. This spinoff is the first to gain fans and excitement, with millions of viewers talking about it since it premiered in 2022.

Fans already have the hashtag #PLLSummerSchool trending on X, sharing their excitement on social media for the new villain, Bloody Rose. In only a few hours, fans are already dissecting every scene in the trailer and making their best predictions of what will come to the characters.

Bailee Madison tweeted two minutes before the trailer’s release, with a 20-second video of the cast expressing “shh,” a signature symbol of the original Pretty Little Liars series that aired from 2010 to 2017. In the tweet, Madison also included a screenshot of her camera roll, which includes a photo of Bloody Rose.

The Pretty Little Liars Instagram account also announced the news on their Instagram story yesterday, exactly 24 hours before the release. The story read, “Got a secret… #PLLSummerSchool trailer tomorrow.” So, social media has been buzzing with excitement over the news for the past day.

The release date was announced on April 9, with the series set to premiere the first two episodes on Thursday, May 9. After that, one new episode will be released each week until the finale, which will occur on June 20.

Before season 2 arrives, you can head to Max to stream the first season and watch the trailer for the new season below.
