Keke Palmer and The Diva Gurls: A New Era of Girl Power
Actress, singer, Password game host, and world-beloved sweetheart Keke Palmer has resurfaced with another groundbreaking music debut, and she isn’t alone. The Diva Gurls are an up-and-coming girl group with little known about them except speculated stage names: LaShaè, Sadè, Monèt, and Keyan.
Fans flutter Palmer’s Instagram with questions and blind excitement over the announcement of the Diva Gurls and debut song, which will be released on June 21.
Lawrence Murray, director, photographer, and designer, comments on his enthusiasm for the girl group underneath the announcement: “We love a girl group!!” Murray has worked with Palmer before, interviewing the starting talent on her KeyTV network series, KeyMaker.
Of the remaining three accounts the girl group follows, Palmer’s network channel, KeyTV, is another. KeyTV prioritizes creators and particularly seeks out underrepresented voices. It features many segments, such as Baby, This is Keke Palmer, and Dear Keke, showcasing Palmer’s and her team’s unbridled creativity and comedic appeal.
The final prominent followers of the Diva Gurls, besides Palmer herself, are music manager Billy Clark or Big Billy Clark. He immersed himself in managing and tour management, accompanying hit artists Usher and Kanye West. In 2005, Clark began a career at Atlanta Records, establishing a relationship between him and the young talented Palmer.
The author of Master of Me: A Memoir, director of the Big Boss documentary, and mother of Leodis “Leo” Andrellton has had her hand in various industries; her musical debut in 2006 wasn’t the last of her range and tone, as she released her album Big Boss in 2023.
“Big Boss is the remarkable true story of Keke Palmer, a young woman from Chicago who faces immense challenges in the male-dominated music industry,” Palmer’s Big Boss site states. “Written and directed by Keke Palmer herself, the film showcases her perseverance, self-love, unyielding faith, and indomitable spirit.”
