Lucy Edwards, a blind journalist, content creator, and now model, made history on Sinéad O’Dwyer’s spring/summer 2025 catwalk, being the first blind person to model at Copenhagen Fashion Week and the first blind person to have walked for a London-based brand.

Edwards became blind at 17 due to a rare genetic mutation, Incontinentia Pigmenti. She has been making a name for herself since 2020 when she posted informative and fun TikTok videos. In these videos, the journalist talks about current events, fun facts, and her experience as a blind woman.

The broadcaster walked down the runway in a chic, tailored ensemble with her service dog. Anna Cofone, the hairstylist who helped Edwards get the opportunity, shared, “Just because a person is blind doesn’t mean they don’t care about their appearance.”

The hairstylist understands some of the journalist’s struggles as she recalls her father losing his vision. Cofone continued, “My father had retinitis pigmentosa, and I think he used fashion and grooming as a way to maintain independence when he was losing sight.”

Following his death 15 years ago, Cofone started Hair and Care, a non-profit tasked with creating spaces in the fashion and beauty industries for those with vision impairment.

Cofone first met Edwards at one of her monthly styling workshops from her studio in Hackney. The model then signed ambassadorships with Pantene and Barbie, resulting in a doll representing her.

Edwards also published a memoir titled Blind, Not Broken, which tells her journey through losing her vision and learning to accept herself. She was one of the guests at Sinéad’s London Fashion Week presentation last season.
