Charli xcx Announces New Summer Era
During Coachella weekend 2, Charli xcx announced the end of “Brat Summer” and a new era for this summer.
Last year, Charli xcx’s album BRAT took over, becoming the cultural phenomenon known as “Brat Summer.” The iconic BRAT green, attitude, and marketing were referenced everywhere, from Saturday Night Live to former Vice President Kamala Harris’ marketing in her presidential campaign this past election.
The massively successful album also led to her first Grammy win for Best Recording Package, Best Dance/Electronic Album, and Best Dance Pop Recording. In addition to her triple Grammy win, she performed on stage alongside Julia Fox and Alex Consani.
The British musician also won big at the BRIT Awards, winning British Dance Act and Songwriter, Artist, Song, and Album of the Year.
This year, she performed at Coachella alongside artists like Troye Sivan, Lorde, and Billie Eilish, which featured on songs from her remix album, Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat, the first weekend.

This weekend, not only did she perform with artists she collaborated with on her remix album, such as Addison Rae, but she also announced the end of “Brat Summer.”
After her performance, the large screen behind her read, “maybe it’s time for a different kind of summer? maybe it’s time to let go. maybe it’s time to make way for…”
The screen then flashed through many different artists “summers,” such as “Lorde Summer” also including Addison Rae, PinkPantheress, HAIM, Aidan Zamir, Yung Lean, Ethel Cain, Cronenberg, Kali Uchis, Pulp, Sean Price Williams, Perfume Genius, Rosalía, Ari Aster, Kogonada, Caroline, PTA, Joachim Trier, These New Puritans, Hailey Benton Gates, Turnstile, A$AP Rocky, Aronofsky, Blood Orange, Bon Iver, and Celine Song.
After the list of artists, including musicians, photographers, and filmmakers, the screen read, “you can’t dread the end when it’s over…” before showing a flag of the BRAT album burning in flames.
On Instagram, xcx posted a picture of the first part, calling for a different summer, captioning the post, “coming soon…”
While the singer may be done with her “Brat Summer” era, she is making room for other artists to have their spotlight this summer as many highlighted release their upcoming projects soon, from musicians like Kali Uchis with her anticipated album Sincerely to filmmakers such as Celine Song, director of the forthcoming film, Materialists, starring Pedro Pascal, Dakota Johnson, and Chris Evans.
