UGG Donates $500,000 to Fight Against Systemic Racial Injustice
On June 4th, the iconic footwear company, UGG, announced on their Instagram page that UGG and its family of brands at Deckers made a $500,000 donation to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, ACLU, Center For Constitutional Rights, Black Lives Matter, and Center for Antiracist Research.
UGG says that it is not only “committed to addressing representation and diversity in [their] organization by evaluating and improving internal practices,” but is also committed to building a “more inclusive workplace.” Most UGG supporters were ecstatic about the company’s proactive response in the fight to end racism, but also have suggested that they work with more Black influencers. On May 30th, UGG also announced that it donated $50,000 to the American Civil Liberties Union, a non-profit that fights to end police brutality and defend individual’s right to exercise their First Amendment.
In early May, UGG partnered with Pacific Pride Foundation and released its #UGGPRIDE collection, featuring Tommy Dorfman as the face of the collection. UGG released boots, which resemble the various flags associated with the LGBTQ+ community, and also donated $125,000 to GLAAD, a non-profit that advocates for LGBTQ+ equality.
We urge you to donate to the organizations that UGG has contributed to and continue to combat systemic racism; after all, it takes everyone to make a change. Everyone must be anti-racist to build a stronger, loving, and more courageous world together.
