Pete Davidson Will Be Playing Punk Rocker Joey Ramone in New Netflix and STXfilms
Pete Davidson will be starring as the legendary punk rocker Joey Ramone in the biopic, I Slept with Joey Ramone. Davidson will be collaborating with a familiar face, Jason Orley, once again. Orley has directed Davidson in Hulu’s Big Time Adolescence as well as his Netflix comedy special, Pete Davidson: Alive from New York.
In an interesting twist, I Slept with Joey Ramone is the title of the memoir by Ramone’s brother, Mickey Leigh. Leigh will be an executive producer for the biopic. In addition to Leigh as an executive producer, Rory Rosegarten and David Spiegelman will serve as executive producers. This project has been supported by the Joey Ramone estate and Rosegarten films.
Adam Fogelson of STX films released in a statement, “When you share a bed with someone – and not just a bed, but a childhood, a family, and a lifetime – you know that person better than anybody else.” He elaborates, “Mickey Leigh not only collaborated with his big brother’s band – he has irreplaceable memories of and insights into Joey Ramone, having supported him when no one else would and witnessed him overcome adversity in the most dramatic way.” It comes as no surprise to have Leigh along board this project.

Davidson has proven his acting chops time and time again. He has grown so much during his time on SNL, constantly reinventing his comedy. More recently, he appeared in The King of Staten Island and will also be seen in The Suicide Squad which is out this August. Fans have taken to social media to share their excitement for Davidson playing the iconic Ramones frontman.

This biopic will now have a new generation of Ramones fans once Davidson is done playing the role. For fans of Davidson and The Ramones, this will be an exciting merge of two very different worlds. Leigh’s memoir, I Slept with Joey Ramone is available to purchase on Barnes and Noble’s website.
