On July 8, Disney officially released a first look at the upcoming film and gave fans some insight into the storyline and characters. According to a news article from Disney Encanto is, “the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charming place called an Encanto.” The main focus of this new film is the 15-year-old not-so-magical Mirabel, who is the only one in her family without a special talent or magical charm.

With the success of Disney’s ode to Mexican heritage movie Coco, the Columbian-infused film Encanto seems like it’s on track for success. With the extensive research done in anticipation of the movie, “The filmmakers were deeply inspired by their research trip to Colombia during the early development of Encanto and their continuous work with a group of expert consultants assembled through the course of the film’s production.”
The new film is expected to release on November 24, 2021, and with this vibrant and diverse first look, Disney’s Encanto looks to be one of the next highly anticipated films of the year.
