Highly AnticipatedBeauty and the Beast New Series Delayed

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

The Disney+ prequel of Beauty and the Beast has been put on hold indefinitely. The series was put back on the shelf because of creative differences. It’s unclear if the stars added to the cast will still be on.

The show was set to have eight episodes produced by ABC Signature Studios, starring Briana Middleton (The Tender Bar), Josh Gad (Honey, I Shrunk the Kids), and Luke Evans (Dracula Untold). The news of the project being put back on the shelf came shortly after they announced that Rita Ora joined the cast.

The Hollywood Reporter stated, “Production on the show was set to begin this spring but was pushed to the summer in Europe in a bid to film in beautiful weather. Sources note that some creative elements were not far enough to accommodate that timeline. Scheduling challenges with the cast also are a factor as some talent had hard outs for other projects beginning in August. With the window of availability shrinking, Disney+ has opted to put the series on hold for the time being.”

When it finally does get a green light, the Disney+ prequel of Beauty and the Beast will focus on the origin story of Disney villain, Gaston.

We hope ABC Signature Studios can solve the creative differences so fans can tap into their nostalgic side again. But for now, fans of Beauty and the Beast can watch the original movie and live-action one on Disney+.
