The Jonas Brothers Talk Family, Brotherhood, and New Music
It’s safe to say that the Jonas Brothers are no longer the shaggy-haired teenagers we were introduced to in the early 2000s. Just days before their first Las Vegas residency, the band of brothers graced the cover of PEOPLE and sat down to discuss all things family, brotherhood, and music.
The New Jersey natives who used to travel as a family of five now have a more extensive list as they’re all married with children, and there’s currently more on the way for middle child Joe and wife, Sophie Turner. Nick is the newest father of the bunch, as he and his wife Priyanka Chopra recently welcomed their daughter Malti. It’s a new journey that may bring some obstacles, but they wouldn’t have it any other way. “We’re in a better spot now than we’ve ever been, and it’s a really fun season of discovering what the next chapter is going to look like,” Nick stated.
Back in 2013, fans were devastated the Jonas Brothers announced their breakup on Good Morning America just two days before leaving for another tour due to tension within the band. The brothers go deeper into reasoning in the Chasing Happiness documentary, and now they look back on the tense years and realize how important proper communication and respect are. Joe mentioned, “Over the years, you start to take advantage of the [sibling] relationship because it’s a safe space…You feel like you can say anything, and that can be damaging.”
Throughout the 6-year breakup, Joe and Nick pursued solo projects while Kevin started a family and took on new business endeavors. While it did hurt the brothers to go separate ways, “It allowed us to understand who we were as people,” Kevin stated.
Fans rejoiced at the news of their 2019 comeback when they spontaneously announced their new single, “Sucker.” Later that summer, they released their fifth studio album Happiness Begins and went on a successful tour. During the beginning of the pandemic, they teased a lot of new music but chose not to drop it because of the state the world was in. Since then, they’ve sporadically dropped singles like “Five More Minutes,” “Leave Before You Love Me,” and “Who’s in Your Head,” but they have yet to release another album that fans have been practically begging for.
Thankfully, fans may not have to wait any longer as Nick recently appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show and hinted that new music is coming soon. More importantly, the brothers feel that this is their best album, yet as Nick stated, “it’s some of our favorite stuff we’ve ever done…the sound that we’re tapping into is really unique for us.” As we know, the brothers have tackled everything from punk rock to moving ballads and catchy pop, so we can not wait to see what this new album has in store.
Check out the Jonas Brothers’ full spread in PEOPLE, which hits newsstands this Friday.
