The Whale is a psychological thriller that premiered on September 4 at the Venice Film Festival. As Brendan Fraser stood next to the cast on stage, the crowd went wild and gave him a six-minute standing ovation. Fraser burst into tears at the applause.

The film follows Charlie, a reclusive English teacher living with life-threatening obesity. Charlie tries to reconnect with his aloof teenage daughter Ellie, played by the Stranger Things star, Sadie Sink.

Fans took to Twitter to express how much Brendan Fraser deserves the world, for his talent in acting and for being an amazing human being.

Dwayne Johnson tweeted how well deserved the applause was towards Fraser. He states “Man this makes me so happy to see this beautiful ovation for Brenden.” Johnson also mentions the impact Fraser had on his career by supporting him to star in the Mummy Returns

The movie reveals an unexpected but anticipated collaboration between Brendan Fraser (Doom Patrol) and Sadie Sink (Stranger Things). Both have praised each other’s performances in the film and think highly of one another. Fraser complimented the skilled actress claiming “I had a front-row seat to watch this kid win the game ball every single day she worked.” When asked about her thoughts on Fraser, Sink described him as “probably my favorite human on the planet.”

The goal was to create an authentic cinematic experience. When Fraser first saw the obese prosthetic suit, he was blown away by the Oscar Nominee effects artist, Adrien Morot. When Fraser put on the suit, he claims “I learned quickly that it takes an incredibly strong person inside that body to be that person,” He believed the experience “seemed fitting and poetic and practical to me, all at once.”

To prepare for the role, Fraser worked closely with the Obesity Action Coalition. He spoke with people who have undergone bariatric surgeries and watched tons of media to understand the portrayal of obesity. The actor viewed his character, Charlie, as “the most heroic man I have ever played.” He describes his character as someone benevolent and capable of seeing the good in others.

Here at Glitter, we are excited to see the film as soon as it enters theaters on December 9. We expect nothing but an emotional ride and a terrific performance from the main cast. If fans are curious to see Brendan Fraser receive his emotional standing ovation, watch the video below.
