Fans Annoyed as Quinta Brunson’s Exciting Emmy Win is Upstaged by Jimmy Kimmel
Abbott Elementary writer and starring actor Quinta Brunson wins Emmy award for Writing for a Comedy Series. Following the show’s release in 2021, fans and critics gave the show high praise, and was instantly a favorite amongst many.
At Brunson’s first Emmy Awards show, she was nominated in three different categories taking home one win in which fans believe her shine was stolen. Comedians Will Arnett and Jimmy Kimmel were the two presenting the award. Arnett is seen dragging Kimmel out on the stage by the feet while Kimmel pretends to be asleep during Brunson’s win. Brunson then has to step over Kimmel while he stayed lying on the floor during her entire speech. Although it is not unusual for hosts to make jokes or act out skits following the nominations, some can pose the question, “Was this comedic or tasteless?”
You can’t convince me that Jimmy Kimmel refusing to get up while Quinta Brunson did her acceptance speech wasn’t pure jealousy and entitlement.

Brunson later goes on to say that she did not find the Kimmel stunt harmful and that Kimmel has always been a fan of hers. “I know Jimmy Kimmel… and I felt like the bit didn’t bother me that much,” she stated in Variety Interview.
Quinta Brunson addressed Jimmy Kimmel laying on stage during her #Emmys acceptance speech: “I felt like the bit didn’t bother me that much…Tomorrow maybe I’ll be mad at him. I’m going to be on his show on Wednesday, so I might punch him in the face.” https://t.co/Bm8Bfhyi0k pic.twitter.com/cMDuZbq0AQ

As far as Kimmel’s feelings on the situation, at Walt Disney’s Emmy after party, he responded to Entertainment Tonight Live about how he feels about his bit. “I had my eyes closed; I had no idea where I was. It was one of the weirdest things that’s ever happened to me,” Kimmel states in Entertainment Tonight Interview.
Assuming this is a harmless prank, fans and viewers still believe that there was foul play. Many point the finger toward men feeling the need and entitlement to overshadow women. Many also are saying that this is strictly a race thing, if not both options. Regardless, this is a big achievement for Brunson, making her the second black woman to receive this Emmy in said category.
