If longevity was a contest, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” would win first place. Since its release in 1994, this song has dominated Christmas music charts annually. Nearly 30 years later, it debuted at #96 on Spotify’s Global Daily Charts and amassed an impressive 1.215 million streams on November 1. This phenomenon is no surprise to fans who anticipate the song’s return each year. As always, Carey wastes no time joining in on the budding Christmas spirit. The queen of Christmas takes pride in her title by adapting to an ever-changing industry. At the time of the track’s original release, streaming services and social media did not exist. These platforms allowed the song’s legacy to skyrocket through constant innovation and accessibility. Although the original music video stands at a whopping 730 million views on Youtube, many other versions were created. If you have never seen the original music video, you can watch it down below.
In 2011, an alternate version of the holiday bop featured pop sensation, Justin Bieber, and was released under the name “Superfestive!” This viral track was a mixture of new and old pop gaining 210 million views on YouTube and becoming another Christmas classic. In recent years, Mariah Carey has released a Black & White version of the holiday song, the “Make My Wish Come True” edition and many live renditions which have increased the track’s popularity. However, Carey does not do this heavy lifting alone. Pop stars like Megan Nicole, Fifth Harmony, and many Youtube stars have shared their spin on the classic each year giving it a fresh feel.
In addition to its countless covers and alternate versions, this song has granted fans a series of upcoming “Merry Christmas To Allconcerts, Tv specials, animated movies, and 12 days of Christmas McDonald’s menu. Also, Carey released countless Christmas classics like ” O Holy Night,” “O Santa,” and a children’s Christmas book, The Christmas Princess. Quite frankly, no one seems to have more holiday cheer than the queen of Christmas.

However, the question remains, what keeps the magic of the song going each year? Besides its constant reinvention and holly jolly vibe, it is simply a fun love song that anyone can enjoy. According to Vogue, ABC News Radio’s entertainment manager, Andrea Dresdale, sums up the secret to its success perfectly. She proclaimed, “It’s a Christmas song, but it has no religious content. In reality, it’s just a love song. Everybody understands longing, desire, love, or just missing somebody. It’s a universal message wrapped up in a Christmas bow.”
Carey’s breathtaking vocals have created some of the greatest love songs of our generation such as “Fantasy,” “Emotions,” and many more. Thankfully, all of these timeless classics are available on a variety of music streaming platforms.
Four Merry Christmas to All concerts hit Toronto and New York from December 9 to 16. We are all excited to see what other magical surprises Carey pulls out of her Christmas stocking. As we anticipate the festivities that await us, fans can amp up their holiday cheer by streaming “All I Want For Christmas Is You” on all available platforms.
