Anna Kendrick Shines in New Trailer for Alice, Darling
Anna Kendrick has given fans a glimpse of her stunning performance in her new film, Alice, Darling. Lionsgate released an official trailer for the feature on Tuesday.
Anna Kendrick is shedding light on the horrors of mentally abusive relationships. Her new film, Alice, Darling, tells the story of a woman trying to navigate being trapped in a toxic relationship. Kendrick stars as the titular character Alice, attempting to get some freedom from her psychologically abusive boyfriend, Simon, portrayed by Charlie Carrick (Deep Water).
The start of the film’s trailer shows Alice taking a vacation with two of her friends to create some distance between her and Simon. However, she fears upsetting him, so she lies to him about where she is going. The rest of the preview features clips of the vacation and how Simon creates an emotional hold over Alice.
Alice, Darling first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11. The thriller’s script was written by Alanna Francis (The Rest of Us), and Mary Nighy (Marie Antoinette) served as director for the project.
Kendrick loved Francis’ script and signed on to star in the film shortly after reading it. The Pitch Perfect actress stated to Lionsgate, “There was something about Alana’s writing that felt so poetic and so restrained. And I was really interested in telling a story about a toxic, abusive relationship that didn’t look the way that it’s always kind of been portrayed in movies, and the way that Alana wrote this woman’s inner turmoil and the very subtle, but very rewarding journey that she goes on, very much intrigued me.”
Alice, Darling opens in Los Angeles theaters on December 30 and will expand to AMC Theatres on January 20, 2023. Viewers can watch the official trailer for the film here.
