Michelle Yeoh Triumphs With Best Actress Win at Golden Globes
Congratulations are in order. Michelle Yeoh has received her first Golden Globe award and it would be an understatement to say that the recognition is long overdue.
On January 10, Michelle Yeoh took home the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy category, for playing many iterations of laundromat owner Evelyn Wang for A24’s masterpiece, Everything Everywhere All at Once.
The actress beat out Lesley Manville (Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris), Margot Robbie (Babylon), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Menu), and Emma Thompson (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande.)

Yeoh began her emotional speech by stating, “I’m just going to stand here and take this all in. Forty years… I’m not letting go of this.” She continues, “When I first came to Hollywood, it was a dream come true… until I got here. I came here and was told, ‘You’re a minority.’ ”
Despite working in popular films Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and Crazy Rich Asians, or collaborating with great directors such as James Cameron and Steven Spielberg, her big break would not come along until being cast in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

She expressed her thanks to A24 and directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. She thanked them for their “courage to write about a very ordinary immigrant, aging woman, mother, daughter.” She continued, “I was given this gift of playing this woman who resonated so deeply with me and with so many people because, at the end of the day, in whatever universe she was in, she was fighting for love, for her family.”
