Brian Cox will embody “The Controller,” a villainous mastermind, in Prime Video’s new competition series. The series is an extension of the Bond franchise, bringing the movies to life through creative challenges.

Brian Cox has had a powerful career as an actor, recently staring as patriarch Logan Roy on the HBO hit series Succession. The Scottish actor will now portray a new villain in a new Prime Video series, 007’s Road to a Million.

This is Cox’s first encounter starring in the James Bond franchise. However, he does have experience with the genre, having appeared in The Bourne Identity and Red. The actor also was a part of the 2004 spy series The Game.

The series is competition based, following contestants on a “global adventure.” The teams compete for up to £1 million pounds in iconic Bond locations such as the Scottish Highlands, Venice, and Jamaica. On top of conquering physical obstacles, there will be mental challenges as well. The participants must answer questions hidden in various locations to advance in the game.

Cox is set to embody “The Controller” in the series. The character is described as “villainous and cultured… Whilst he lurks in the shadows, he is watching and controlling everything.” In a statement, Cox shared, “I enjoyed my role as both villain and tormentor, with license to put the hopeful participants through the mangle.”

Cox detailed his experience acting in the series as a whole, revealing, “I got to see how ordinary people would cope with being on a James Bond adventure.” He furthered, “they travel the world to some of the most iconic Bond locations, it gets more intense and nail-biting.”

Fans are excited about Cox’s new role, especially as a villain. Overall, the competition series appears to be receiving mixed reactions online. Some are excited, whereas others would rather have a new Bond movie.

007’s Road to a Million is set to launch on Prime Video later this year. In the meantime, fans can keep up with Cox on Succession, streaming on HBO Max.
