Ed Sheeran Sets New MetLife Stadium Record
Ed Sheeran is currently performing his Mathematics Tour, where he shattered MetLife Stadium’s all-time record of attendees with a whopping 89,106 people.
Sheeran made a quick pit stop at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on June 10 and 11. The “Shape of You” hitmaker played his largest US concert to date. The previous MetLife concert record was held by U2, whose 2011 worldwide 360-degree tour concert amassed 88,491 fans.

Apart from Sheeran’s No. 6 Collaborations Project (2019), he has released + (2011), x (2014), ÷ (2017), and = (2021). Sheeran released his sixth studio album, Subtract, in May 2023. The album completed his use of mathematical symbols. The English musician spoke about his decision to name his records after math symbols, stating, “The thing with the albums is I, very early on in my career, decided I didn’t… I don’t mean to play it down, but I do have a face for the radio. And I was like, ‘I don’t really want to be a poster boy ever.’ I don’t want to be, like, selling my record being like, ‘Hey, how you doing?’
He continued, “So I had sort of figured out a way, I was like, ‘I’m going to do it with colors and symbols.’ So I was like, ‘I’d love to get to a point that there’s a billboard of just red with an equals sign, or green with a multiply, or blue with a divide, or orange with a plus, and people go, ‘Oh, Ed’s got an album coming out.’”
Sheeran scored his first two Grammy wins at the 58th annual Grammy Awards in 2016. He won Song Of The Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for his smash hit, “Thinking Out Loud.” In 2018, he was awarded the Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance for “Shape of You.” His record, Divide, also received a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album.
We congratulate Sheeran on his history-making concert in New Jersey. Fans can stream his latest record, Subtract, on all major music platforms.
