Keke Palmer won an Emmy award for Outstanding Host for a Game Show, becoming the first woman in 15 years to win this award.

Palmer won the award for hosting on NBC’s game show, Password, beating Jeopardy!’s hosts Ken Jennings and Mayim Bialik, Family Feud’s Steve Harvey, and Wheel of Fortune’s Pat Sajak. Palmer started hosting the game show in 2022. The Hustlers actress secured her second Emmy Award, adding to her accolades from 2021 when she won an award for Turnt Up with the Taylors.

In an interview with The Washington Post in 2022, Palmer revealed that her personality, although slightly performative, on Password is very close to her actual self. “I’m really feeling personality-hosting and producing, because I’m really feeling me and myself more than portraying someone else,” she stated. “Even though my personality in hosting is still a performative aspect of who I am, it’s a little bit closer to who I am than playing a character or a role,” she continued.

Palmer is also the first Black woman to win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Host for a Game Show. “Wow. That is so exciting thank you so much. I’m really just so thankful, I’m almost speechless. I want to thank the people who allowed this to happen, thank you to Jimmy Fallon, thank to NBC,” Palmer stated in her acceptance speech.

Jimmy Falon also showered praises on Palmer, “Sharp, charming and quick witted all while looking like a superstar. There’s no one like Keke Palmer.”

Palmer shared images of herself with the award on Instagram, captioning it “Couldn’t do it without you @jimmyfallon! I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be apart of such a classic game show such as Password. It’s a true honor, I won! I’m excited, BOOTS! Thank you to the @televisionacad ✨.”

Meredith Vieira was the last woman to win in this category in 2009 for Who Wants to be a Millionaire? This year was also the first time Password was nominated in 50 years, following Allen Ludden’s win in 1974.

Palmer is set to star in a heist comedy, The Pickup, opposite Eddie Murphy. The filming is set to start in February this year. In the meantime, fans can listen to Palmer’s podcast Baby, This is Keke Palmer here.
