Despite earlier reports, Max is turning two of their Max Original series, The Penguin and Dune: Prophecy, into HBO Originals.

This morning, Deadline dropped a report revealing that these two series will now be released as HBO Originals. This means rather than debuting solely on the Max streaming service, they will also air on HBO’s cable channel simultaneously. Traditionally, HBO airs its biggest titles at 9 p.m. EST on Sunday nights.

This news comes on the heels of another report from Deadline last month about Warner Brothers streaming plans. At the time, three series were moving to HBO from Max which were the IT prequel, Welcome to Derry, the Lanterns superhero series from DC studios, and Harry Potter, which recently hired its showrunner. At the time, it was unknown if The Penguin and Dune: Prophecy, which are releasing much sooner, would follow suit. Now, that seems to be the case.

The Penguin, which just released a new trailer, comes from the universe of The Batman. Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin) stars in the eight-episode crime series. In addition, Christin Milloti, Clancy Brown, Micheal Zegan, and Micheal Kelly join Farrell in Gotham City for the series. The Penguin is set to release in September of this year. Moreover, the series will have a large presence at San Diego Comic-Con in two weeks.

Meanwhile, Dune: Prophecy is a prequel to the Oscar-winning science fiction drama Dune and its recent sequel, Dune: Part Two. Set ten thousand years before the events of Dune, the series follows two sisters as they create the Order of the Bene Gesserit. Alison Schapeker (Alias) serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. The series stars Emily Watson (Chernobyl) and Olivia Williams (The Crown) as sisters Valya and Tula Harkonnan. The supporting cast includes Sarah-Sofie Brossnina (The Bridge), Travis Fimmel (Vikings), Mark Strong (Cruella), and Chris Mason (Riverdale). The series is set to release in the fall of 2024.
