Dynamic TV duo Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal are back, reuniting for Hulu’s first Spanish-language original series, La Máquina.

Fans are thrilled to see Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal back on screen together in La Máquina. The duo’s rich history in Mexican television has only fueled excitement for this new project. The pair first appeared together in the critically acclaimed, Critics’ Choice Award-winning film Y Tu Mamá También, directed by Alfonso Cuarón, who also directed Roma. As one of Mexico’s most beloved films, Y Tu Mamá También continues to resonate with a new generation, particularly following the 20th anniversary of its nomination for the 75th Academy Awards. Luna and Bernal haven’t shared the screen since 2012, when they both starred in Matt Piedmont’s Casa De Mi Padre.

La Máquina, developed by the lifelong friends, tells the story of Esteban Osuna, an aging boxer portrayed by Bernal. With the help of his best friend and manager Andy Luján, portrayed by Luna, Esteban is given a second chance at success after a major career setback. However, the road to redemption proves difficult as unexpected challenges arise.

Bernal touched on this topic in the Variety podcast, stating they "wanted to make it light and fun but make it deep".

One aspect of the series that has caused a stir on social media is Luna's dramatic transformation, leaving him nearly unrecognizable.

Luna shared with Just for Variety podcast, that the creation of the series “took time because [they] wanted to do it right” adding, “We wanted to talk about something that would matter to us – the success of someone growing up, aging, which is clearly happening to us.”

The series is filled with twists and turns, keeping viewers on edge and unsure of what’s coming next. Despite the uncertainty, Luna and Bernal’s on-screen chemistry remains the series’ grounding force. There’s an intriguing, almost fantastical atmosphere surrounding the episodes, creating a murky, psychological journey that explores the complexities of success, all while incorporating humor.
