The Life of Chuck: First Look At Tom Hiddleston In Powerful Stephen King Adaptation
Tom Hiddleston stars in The Life of Chuck, a film from the mind of legendary author Stephen King. A teaser trailer for the upcoming drama gives a first look at his next adaptation.
The Life of Chuck is based on King’s title from the same name and is a tale from his collection of novellas, If It Bleeds. The story centers around Chuck Krantz (Tom Hiddleston), a seemingly ordinary accountant who is anything but.
Like the novel, the film will be split into three parts, different phases of Chuck’s life, and told in reverse chronological order. Actors Benjamin Pajak and Jacob Tremblay will embody the younger versions of Chuck. Mark Hamill, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Matthew Lillard, Karen Gillan, and Mia Sara will join Hiddleston and the younger Chucks in this cast. Nick Offerman will also narrate the film.
Stephen King is an American author known for his extensive bibliography of novels ranging in genre from horror, science fiction, crime thrillers, and mysteries to 200 novellas since 1967. His most famous works adapted for the screen include Misery, It, Carrie, Pet Cemetery, Gerald’s Game, The Green Mile, Doctor Sleep, Stand by Me, and many more.
Filmmaker Mike Flanagan, who has worked with King on the adaptations of Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game, will write, direct, and edit the film.
Flanagan likewise knows how to create horror, creating three horror drama miniseries for Netflix: The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and The Fall of the House of Usher. However, The Life of Chuck is a more mystical and philosophical work of King’s, more in line with The Shawshank Redemption and Stand By Me.
The Life of Chuck will be distributed for widespread release by NEON. Fresh off the success of Anora, they hope to have another critical success with this genre-bending film.
The teaser trailer is quite simple: a sky full of stars, a ticking clock, and a beeping hospital monitor, glimpses of Chuck in the three phases of his life. In this teaser, we only see Hiddleston standing in the middle of the street with a drum set.
The Life of Chuck will release in select Theaters June 6. In the meantime, check out the teaser trailer below.
