A Look Into The New Mandalorian and Grogu Teaser From Star Wars Celebration
Mandalorian and Grogu fans were in for a treat when the film’s teaser trailer was shown at Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo on April 20.
Longtime creators Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni introduced the footage from their new project. Stars Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, and Grogu were also in attendance.
The action-packed teaser gave the audience a glimpse at snow troopers inside an AT-AT preparing for battle. Then, in a homage to the 1977 Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, the Mandalorian cuts open the robot and fights his way through troopers one by one before making his way to the cockpit door.
The trailer also showed a mysterious new character portrayed by Weaver, speaking to the protagonist to remind him that he works for her. Several short battle scenes followed before closing with a brief look at the crime lord Rotta the Hutt, portrayed by Jeremy Allen White.

The son of Jabba the Hutt is shown raising his hands in the center of a fighting arena before the camera cuts to Grogu sitting in the stands eating popcorn. During a live interview, Pascal and Filoni claimed it’s a “wonderful” film, and they greatly respect Favreau.
“I think what’s fun is watching Jon [Favreau] direct a movie again,” Filoni added. “I have such great respect for Jon [Favreau] because he took me in, taught me, and mentored me.”
He continued, “Working with Pedro [Pascal], which was such a privilege to be in that spot for my first time out, and to see it grow to this scale is just so exciting.”
Favreau and Pascal’s hit series The Mandalorian streamed for three seasons on Disney+ and rose to superstardom as one of the franchise’s most popular projects. Pascal claimed that to portray his beloved character once again on the big screen felt like a “warm glove,” since he could work with Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder.
“Being here today made me realize I’ve been here with the same people for such a long time,” the Moon Knight actor added. “It’s been six or seven years.”
