Lil Nas X Releases New Hit Single ‘Sun Goes Down’
On May 21, Lil Nas X released a fresh bop titled “Sun Goes Down,” along with a fitting music video. The single comes just months after the 22-year-old’s famed “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Lil Nas X dropped a video for his new song “Sun Goes Down” on Friday only after two months of his hit “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” coming out.

Within the music video, the star reflects on his 2017 high school self. Lil Nas X is seen comforting this past persona, as insecurities run wild in his mind.
Lil Nas X talks about acceptance, bullying, and race in the song stating, “Since ten, I been feeling lonely / Had friends but they was picking on me / Always thinking why my lips so big / Was I too dark? Can they sense my fears?”
The music video features the artist working at Taco Bell, scrolling through negativity on social media, and a lonesome prom night full of tears. Towards the end of the song, viewers watch as Lil Nas X picks himself back up, becoming the life of the party.
Nevertheless, “Sun Goes Down” and “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” are rumored to be tracks on Lil Nas X’s much-anticipated debut studio album, Montero. The album is also said to hold the single “Holiday” as well. Moreover, fans will be able to watch Lil Nas X perform during iHeartMedia’s virtual Can’t Cancel Pride in June.
