It’s official, NBC has announced that Kelly Clarkson’s talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show will replace the nationally syndicated talk show, The Ellen Degeneres Show. On May 25, the network announced that the current coach on The Voice would have her show moved to the precious time slot, which was occupied for 19 seasons.

The Kelly Clarkson Show is in its second season and airs on 200 stations across the country. Executives at NBC are more than happy with the accomplishments of the pop singer’s talk show. Executive vice-president at NBCUniversal Syndication Studios, Tracie Wilson, told The Hollywood Reporter, “The Kelly Clarkson Show is one of the most optimistic success stories in first-run syndication… We’re working on some big plans for season three and are looking forward to becoming the premier show in daytime for years to come.”

Network executives are ecstatic with the upcoming change due to the fact that The Kelly Clarkson Show was renewed last year for two more seasons, taking the show through 2023 thus providing a financial incentive for NBC.

More importantly, the final season of The Ellen Degeneres Show paired with a bigger and better season of The Kelly Clarkson Show will mean increased ratings for the network as a whole. In the same interview with The Hollywood Reporter, president of NBCUniversal Local Valari Staab said, “We look forward to Ellen DeGeneres’ 19th season paired with Kelly Clarkson for what is sure to be a blockbuster year. By 2022, The Kelly Clarkson Show will be the star of our daytime entertainment schedules and an asset to our early afternoon newscasts,”

Earlier this month, the news broke that Ellen Degeneres would end her talk show after season 19, coming this Fall. Although she said her departure was due to a lack of creative challenge, it has been a chaotic year for the series as former employees accused Degeneres of toxic workplace behavior.

Not all stations that air Degeneres’ talk show are opting for lower-cost news programs rather than Clarkson’s show. Nonetheless, NBC is excited about the change and is optimistic about the future of The Kelly Clarkson Show.
