Spiderman: Into The Spider-Verse actor Shameik Moore and Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney lead in the upcoming crime drama Silver Star. Filming is set for fall 2021.

Per Deadline, Sydney Sweeney was announced as Silver Star‘s lead back in October of 2020, while her male co-star was still being cast. The Parade model wrote on Instagram, “Really excited to be a part of this beautiful story that dives into the harsh realities of American lives.”

Deadline announced on June 9 that Shameik Moore would join the cast as the male lead. The Let It Snow actor will play Buddy, a 20-year-old who was recently released from jail. He strives to save his family’s home from foreclosure and takes pregnant 19-year-old Franny (played by Sweeney) as a hostage during an amateur bank robbery. The two go on an unexpected journey together across America.

The film was written and will be directed by Ruben Amar. Mk2 films will handle international sales. Amar said of Sweeney, “Sydney is an extraordinary actress who brings nuance and subtlety to each character she embodies. Her talent will allow her to metamorphose, with grace and talent into the very complex, multifaceted Franny.” Fionnuala Jamison, Head of International Sales of Mk2 films, said of Moore, “From playing iconic roles such as Spider-Man and Wu-Tang’s Raekwon, we are excited for Shameik Moore to really make the character of Buddy his own.”

Fans of the duo showed their excitement for the film on Twitter.

Sydney Sweeney stars in the upcoming HBO Max series The Players Table with Halsey. Shameik Moore stars in the upcoming sequel for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which is expected in 2022.
