Welsh singer-songwriter Marina Diamandis, once known as Marina and the Diamonds but now commonly known as MARINA, celebrated the premiere of her latest album, Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land, with a live-streamed concert from the California desert.

Marina’s four band members joined her in the picturesque desert. The production had a retro feel and included many bold colors. The set was made of geometric, colorful blocks. Marina stunned in a vibrant orange set with matching eyeshadow for most of the performance before switching into a neon green outfit.

The virtual show opened with the new album’s title track, Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land, and each song seamlessly transitioned into the next. Marina performed tunes from the recent album, including politically poetic pieces like “Venus Fly Trap,” “Purge the Poison,” and “Man’s World.” Marina maintained her theme of catchy melodies with meaningful lyrics. She transitioned into “Highly Emotional People” before throwing it back to some of her older, popular hits such as “Blue.” Accompanied by string musicians, Marina performed “New America,” another political song with meaningful lyrics. Then, switching back to her new music, Marina swapped the orange crop top and high-waisted pants for the neon yellow-green coat to sing “Pandora’s Box.”

Throughout the performance, fans tweeted and commented through the live stream platform, expressing their excitement over the evening, the music, and the prospect of watching Marina live in concert.

As the sun faded into the desert hills, Marina performed some of her most famous older hits, such as “Bubblegum Bitch” and “How to Be a Heartbreaker” from her 2012 album, Electra Heart. The musical evening was wrapped up with a performance of two tracks off her most recent album, “I Love You But I Love Me More” and “Goodbye.”

Pre-sale tickets for Marina’s upcoming Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land 2022 Tour go on sale on June 14 at 10 a.m. local time and can be purchased through her official website.
