Queen Latifah Receives Tribute With Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2021 BET Awards

Queen Latifah accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2021 BET Awards on Sunday, June 27. The award-winning actress, rapper, and entrepreneur was honored by longtime celebrity friends, including MC Lyte, Rapsody, Jada Pinkett Smith, Lil’ Kim, and Monie Love.

Fans were saying, “All hail Queen Latifah,” after tuning into the 2021 BET Awards. The multi-talented queen was honored at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles with both an award and tribute.


The tribute to Latifah, also known as the “woman who has been creating magic for decades,” included testimonials from celebs such as Jada Pinkett SmithMegan Thee Stallion, LL Cool J, and more.

Latifah visibly held back tears as she watched the performance from Lil’ Kim, MC Lyte, Monie Love, and Rapsody. The talented group of women performed a list of her Hip-Hop classics including, “U-N-I-T-Y,” “Just Another Day,” and “Ladies First.”

After the tribute, Latifah took the stage to deliver her speech, where she appeared emotional and choked up from the heartwarming tribute of her ’90s classics.

“I’m so extremely moved I don’t even know what to say,” Latifah touchingly said with a beautiful photo of her late mother, Rita Owens, in hand. “I want to thank BET for creating an outlet for beautiful Blackness to thrive, to shine. When we couldn’t get played on the radio and other places, we couldn’t get our videos played in other places there was BET that allowed us to be in our fullness.”
