Lovecraft Country followed the story of Atticus Black, played by Jonathan Majors, his love interest/friend, Letitia, played by Jurnee Smollett, and his uncle George played by Courtney B.Vance, to uncover the truth about his missing father. While coming to face these new family truths, Atticus and the gang discover his family’s history of magical powers, cult activity, and even owning monsters as guard dogs. The show also gave viewers a history lesson in each episode and really emphasized the uses of segregation, sundown towns, and quite a few other historically accurate events. Lovecraft Country combined topics of racism and sci-fi to make a groundbreaking series, like no other. Creator Misha Green shared her original plans for season two via Twitter, and it looks like it would have been quite interesting as the U.S. in season two is now even more divided.

Lovecraft Country did well amongst its viewers, and Jurnee Smollett, who plays Letitia, won a Critics Choice award for best-supporting actress in a drama series. Receiving a few other nominations at the Critics Choice awards, many fans were also left wondering why the show didn’t get so many at the Golden Globe Awards back in February of this year. Lovecraft Country has always been different since the first episode. The show has never shied away from really diving into racism and oppression in the 1950s while also intertwining a positive message surrounding black people and magic. Even though the show will not be renewed for season two, it doesn’t seem like fans of the show won’t go down without a fight.
