Warner Bros. and DC have finally found their Batgirl. After a long week of cut-throat auditions, the studios hired In the Heights star Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon. Many celebrities battled it out for the part, such as Zoey Deutch, Isabela Merced, and Haley Lu Richardson, but ultimately Grace came out victorious.

According to DC, Barbara Gordon is the daughter of Commissioner James Gordon. She is Batman’s counterpart. A genius who follows her instincts, she is an ordinary girl by day and a crime-fighting superhero by night. Gordon is an associate of the Dark Knight and a member of the Birds of Prey. In the comics, the first Batgirl debuted in 1961 as Betty Kane, the niece of Kathy Kane, or Batwoman. Since then, there have been many Batgirls, but Barbara’s Batgirl debuted in January 1967.

Warner Bros. and DC have been busy, cranking out movies like crazy.  Zach Snider’s Justice League and Wonder Woman 1984 were released this year. The Suicide Squad hits theaters next month: Aquaman 2 and The Flash release in 2022. Now, Batgirl and Robert Pattinson’s The Batman and are in the works. Moreover, The Harley Quinn Show is getting another season. Fans hope for a new Birds of Prey movie with Leslie Grace’s Batgirl in it.

All we know about the upcoming series is the exciting casting news of Batgirl, but we can’t wait to see the adaptation of the comics come to life. While fans wait for more details about the movie, DC movies can be streamed on HBO Max.
