Idris Elba Is Set to Voice Knuckles in New Film ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2′

Idris Elba was announced to be voicing the character Knuckles in the movie Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The 48-year-old actor confirmed the new role by posting a photo of Knuckles’ spiked hand on social media.

On Tuesday, August 10, Idris Elba posted to social media with the caption, “Knock, knock….. #SonicMovie2 #Knuckles“.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the character Knuckles is described as “a red Echidna” and “the guardian of the Master Emerald in the videogames.”

For the animated action movie, Idris Elba will be joining James Marsden, Ben Schwartz, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Shemar Moore, and Jim Carrey, who were previously announced in the cast. Producing the movie are Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, Toru Nakahara, and Hitoshi Okuno. Executive producing are Haruki Satomi, Yukio Sugino, Shuji Utsumi, Nan Morales, and Tim Miller.

Directed by Jeff Fowler, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a sequel to the original live-action movie released in 2020. According to IMDb, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is expected to be in post-production starting on April 8, 2022.

Idris Elba is a five-time Emmy-nominated actor best known for his roles in TakersThorPrometheus, Pacific Rim, Thor: The Dark World, Beasts of No Nation, Star Trek Beyond, and more. Previously, the actor has voiced Chief Bogo in Zootopia, Shere Khan in The Jungle Book, and Fluke in Finding Dory.
