Warner Bros. Releases Action-Packed Trailer to ‘The Matrix Resurrections’

Warner Brothers shared the first trailer to Lana Wachowski’s The Matrix Resurrections on Thursday, September 9. Wachowski has delivered stunning visuals, coming as no surprise for fans of the beloved sci-fi franchise.

The trailer begins with Thomas Anderson, also known as Neo, (played by Keanu Reeves), in a discussion with his therapist (played by Neil Patrick-Harris) about Neo’s “dreams that weren’t just dreams.” Anderson goes on to say that he thinks he must be crazy, with Patrick-Harris’ character replying that the word ‘crazy’ does not exist in that room.

The near three-minute-long trailer is cleverly set to the tune of Jefferson Airplane’s 1967 song “White Rabbit.” Grace Slick, the lead singer of Jefferson Airplane, reveals the meaning behind “White Rabbit,” recalling Alice in Wonderland’s inspiration in an interview where she reveals, “Alice was on her own, and she was in a very strange place, but she kept on going and she followed her curiosity – that’s the White Rabbit.”

Slick then elaborates on the 60s period, referring to that time as “Wonderland” and discusses the use of psychedelic drugs. She reveals, “Psychedelic drugs showed you that there are alternative realities. You open up to things that are unusual and different, and, in realizing that there are alternative ways of looking at things, you become more accepting of things around you.”

This is a similar idea found in The Matrix, where Morpheus poses to Neo a choice of taking a red or blue pill, with each presenting an alternative reality. Interestingly enough, the red pill represents Wonderland, that is, Morpheus will show Neo just how far the rabbit hole goes. Similar to Alice in Wonderland, the White Rabbit takes Alice down the rabbit hole.

Apart from the perfect song choice and incredible aesthetic pleasure, the trailer also has Neo and Trinity (Carrie-Ann Moss) reunited for the first time in eighteen years. The catch is that Neo seems unable to remember his past or who he is, leading Trinity to ask Neo, “Have we met?” This is an interesting turn of events, but fans were thrilled to see Moss and Reeves reunited on-screen.
