A new Britney Spears documentary is on the horizon. Britney Vs Spears will follow Britney’s thirteen-year conservatorship. The film is set to release on September 28 to coincide with her next court date to remove her father as her conservator on September 29.

The documentary has been in the works for the past two and a half years. Erin Lee Carr and Jenny Eliscu serve as directors, and both have closely followed the case. Both Carr and Eliscu have worked to “delve deep into the tangled history of the conservatorship that has been in place for over 13 years. The film weaves a shocking timeline of old and new players, secret rendezvous, and Britney’s behind-the-scenes fight for her autonomy. Text messages and a voicemail, as well as new interviews with key players, make clear what Britney herself has attested: the full story has yet to be told.”

Britney Vs Spears follows the pop icon’s rise to fame and all aspects of her life as she embarks on her journey for freedom. The documentary features years-long investigative work, exclusive interviews, and new documents. Furthermore, it contains voiceovers from subjects that have been interviewed, focusing on the issues Britney had with her family and their roles in the conservatorship.

For over a decade, Britney has battled to end her conservatorship. Initially, the “Toxic” singer entered the conservatorship in 2008 after suffering from a mental breakdown the year before. For thirteen years, the singer would endure an allegedly abusive conservatorship where her father “controlled her spending, communications, and personal decisions.”

Finally, in July of 2021, hope started to shine as Britney slowly began making strides to her freedom, from choosing her lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, to her father filing a petition to remove himself as conservator. Britney Vs Spears debuts on September 28 on Netflix and Britney’s next court date is set on September 29 to remove Jamie Spears as conservator.
