Around the World in 80 Days, an upcoming TV adaptation of Jules Verne’s novel starring David Tennant, has been confirmed for a second season. Despite the first season not having premiered yet, producers Silm Film + Television and Federation Entertainment announced that the show will return for a second season, much to the delight of fans.

The first season of the series follows Tennant’s character Phileas Fogg on his trip around the world to win a bet. Fogg is accompanied by Passepartout (played by Ibrahim Koma) and Abigail (played by Leonie Benesch). Currently, the first episode is scheduled to premiere in January 2022, on BBC One in the UK and Masterpiece PBS in the U.S.

Although casting has not been finalized, the primary cast is expected to return for the second season of thrilling adventures across the globe.

Production of Around the World in 80 Days is led by showrunner Ashley Pharoah. Pharoah is also set to work on another Jules Verne adaptation, “Journey to the Centre of the Earth,” which has just been confirmed by Slim Film + Television and Federation Entertainment to begin production.

In a statement to Collider, Slim Film + Television’s Simon Crawford Collins talked about his experience working with Pharoah. “We are excited to also bring Ashley’s trademark blend of humor and emotion to Journey to the Centre of the Earth, Ashley has developed an ensemble of exciting new and updated characters to bring a fresh and modern take to another of Jules Verne’s beloved novels.”

Federation Entertainment’s Lionel Uzan also spoke on the matter, praising the synergy of the two companies by adding that, “working hand-in-hand on Around the World in 80 Days has been an inspiring experience for us all, and fresh-off the first globe-trotting odyssey together, it only seemed natural that our next journey would bring us to the innermost depths of our planet.”
