‘Degrassi’ Is Arriving With Its Next Class In 2023
Get ready because the next class of Degrassi will be coming to HBO Max in 2023.
The multiple award-winning soap opera-type series that has caught the attention of millions since October 14, 2001, is being continued on HBO Max with a new high school cast.
The show has had 14 successful seasons, and to add to the exciting news, HBO Max has acquired U.S. rights to each previous season.
There has not been much said after the announcement, but Wildbrain, the television group producing the revival, stated Lara Azzopardi and Julia Cohen would be serving as showrunners. Cohen has produced “Riverdale” and “Quantico“, while Azzopardi has worked as an executive producer for “Mary Kills People” and “The Bold Type.” The show is in excellent hands already.
The two showrunners stated to People “What excites us maybe the most about reviving this beloved franchise, is turning it into a truly serialized one-hour drama”. They concluded by saying “we’re honored to be given the opportunity to lead this evolution and bring this iconic series back into people’s homes.”
According to People, HBO Max describes the plot as “a character-driven series about the high school experience and the thrilling, often painful journey of self-discovery. Set in Toronto, the new series explores a group of teenagers and school faulty living in the shadow of events that both bind them together and tear them apart. The show travels deep into the hearts and homes of diverse, complicated characters, as they struggle to find their new normal, reaching for hope, redemption, and love.”
Amy Friedman, via The Hollywood Reporter, stated, “series after series, the Degrassi franchise continues to make an indelible impact on young viewers looking for trustworthy and authentic storytelling.” Friedman isn’t the only one loving Degrassi. Several watchers are excited about the revival.

Filming will begin this summer in Toronto, so in the meantime, starting this spring via Variety, fans can binge watch the previous seasons until it is time for the big reveal.
