Kacey Musgraves surprised fans with a stunning cover of “Dreams,” one of the most iconic songs in the British-American band Fleetwood Mac’s discography.

Ahead of Kacey Musgraves’ performance at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia for her Star-Crossed: Unveiled tour, the “Justified” singer made a quick pit stop to Tavern on Camac, the long-running gay bar. The singer shared her rendition of “Dreams,” the hit song that appears on Fleetwood Mac’s eleventh studio album, Rumours. The song is famously sung by Stevie Nicks, and it remains an enduring classic to this day.

Musgraves’ surprise pop-up at the Tavern on Camac is not entirely surprising, as she has long been a supporter of the LGBTQ community. In 2014, she released the song, “Follow Your Arrow.” The song has made a huge cultural impact on the community for its positive message of self-love and acceptance, as well as embracing one’s sexuality. “Follow Your Arrow” won ‘Song of the Year’ at the Country Association Awards that year.

In 2017, the singer wrote a love letter to the LGBTQ community, recalling her memories of visiting gay bars in Nashville. She writes in her piece:

“I shortly moved to Nashville where I made tons of gay friends and started going to the few gay clubs we have in town. It started to enrage me that I’d had some previous misunderstanding about a group of people that I now love so much and have so much in common with. As I got deeper into the country community I realized how many still felt the need to hide their identities. Country music has always been a genre built on songs and stories celebrating real life so I took it upon myself to include my own awakening into my music and knew that I would be taking some heat for it.”

In the next paragraph, the singer talks about the lasting significance of “Follow Your Arrow,” telling fans how much that song changed her life and influenced her music career in many indescribable ways. She elaborates, “‘Follow Your Arrow’ may have tanked on the country radio chart, but that song specifically has brought so much meaning, happiness, and listeners to my music that may not have been there otherwise. So, to my friends in the LGBTQ community: Thank you. While the career stuff is great, it’s fleeting. You changed me as a human.”

Kacey Musgraves has been a shining light for the LGBTQ community. Be sure to watch the heartwarming cover above.
