The horror flick releases on July 22 and already has fans guessing ahead of what is sure to be a blockbuster release. Plot details are still cloudy, but the trailer provided some hints, including Palmer’s character filming an introduction alongside Kaluuya’s to the Haywood Ranch, “the only Black-owned horse trainers in Hollywood.”

Peele’s directorial debut, the psychological thriller Get Out (2017), was an award show bastion in 2018, giving him an Academy Award for best original screenplay and nominations for best director and best picture. He made history as the first Black person to win for the category. His films, Get Out and Us (2019), are known for their poignant commentary on race and society in the horror genre.

In Peele’s Oscar acceptance speech, he stated, “I almost never became a director because there was such a shortage of role models. I am so proud to be a part of a time that’s the beginning of a movement, where I feel like the best films of every genre are being brought to me by black directors.”

NOPE releases in theaters on July 22, 2022.
