The Hollywood Critics Association announced that Javier Bardem would be receiving the inaugural International Icon Award at the 5th Annual HCA Film Awards. The ceremony will be held at the Avalon Hollywood and hosted by Tony Award winner Annaleigh Ashford.

On February 28, The Hollywood Critics Association revealed that Spanish actor Javier Bardem would be honored with the International Icon Award. The HCA award recognizes “artists whose work has transcended all barriers, impacting a worldwide audience with the universal language of excellence.”

HCA President Nestor Bentancor shared his excitement behind giving the actor this incredible honor. He states, “One of the greatest actors alive, Javier Bardem, has moved and electrified audiences for decades with a unique combination of raw talent, grace, refined skills, and unparalleled commitment to the craft.” Last year, the actor had an impressive range of performances, appearing in three films: Being the Ricardos, Dune, and The Good Boss.

Bardem recently made Oscars history with his wife, Penélope Cruz. He landed a Best Actor nod for his role as Desi Arnaz in Being the Ricardos. Cruz was nominated for Best Actress for her role as Janis in Parallel Mothers. She was nominated alongside Bardem’s co-star and on-screen wife, Nicole Kidman, for her portrayal as the legendary Lucille Ball.

HCA President Nestor Bentancor continues, “As a Hispanic film lover, it fills me with joy and pride to see such an illustrious member of our community continuously leaving such a profound mark in Hollywood and the global entertainment industry. It will be an honor for our organization to honor someone that embodies the title of an international icon.”

Presenters at the 5th Annual HCA Film Awards will include Robin de Jesús, Colman Domingo, Sophia Ali, Cooper Raiff, Rob Morgan, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Brian d’Arcy James, Ron Perlman, Tia Carrere, Sandra Mae Frank, Alexandra Shipp, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Marlee Matlin, Jamie Dornan, Caitriona Balfe, Doug Jones, Reinaldo Marcus Green, Kaitlyn Dever, and Ciarán Hinds.
