Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar is shocking the world with his latest music video for his single, “The Heart Part 5.” The single is part of Lamar’s latest album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, where the rapper uses Black cultural leaders to criticize modern culture.

The new single samples Marvin Gaye’s song “I Want You” and is part of the singer’s heart series. A non-album song, “The Heart Part 4,” came out in 2017 shortly after the release of Lamar’s album D*mn.

The music video portrays prominent Black cultural leaders, including Will Smith, Jessie Smollett, Kanye West, Kobe Bryant, O.J. Simpson, and rapper Nipsey Hussle. Kendrick used technology to show a deep understanding of his growth as an artist and as a Black man.

Kendrick Lamar is the only rapper that has won a Pulitzer Prize for his award-winning album D*mn. Lamar’s intellectual thought process when writing music makes everyone evaluate the meaning of every song he drops.

In the song, Lamar mentions the quote, “As I get a little older, I realize life is perspective.” The piece covers mental health, religion, gang violence, and the murder of Nipsey Hussle.

The single was released Sunday night and has been blowing up ever since. Lebron James has even tweeted about the new single. Lamar’s latest album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, will drop on Friday. Kendrick’s music can be streamed on all music streaming platforms.
