Although it was shown at CinemaCon more than one month ago and at the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards, Lionsgate Movies finally posted the teaser on YouTube for all fans to enjoy. According to The Free Press Journal, “The approximately one-and-a-half-minute video doesn’t include any actual footage of the film, but offers a chilling look at a gold snake slithering toward a gold bird on a tree while both are shedding snow from themselves, set to haunting vocals and dramatic piano.” The new symbol for the movie was revealed at the end of the teaser.

The highly-anticipated film that serves as the prequel to The Hunger Games trilogy will be based on the novel with the same title written by Suzanne Collins. Released back on May 19, 2020, the story is set 64 years before the original series and focuses on 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow before he became the President of Panem. According to IMDb, the plot begins “With the 10th annual ‘Hunger Games’ fast approaching, the young Snow is alarmed when he is assigned to mentor ‘Lucy Gray Baird’, the girl tribute from impoverished ‘District 12’.”

Young President Snow will be portrayed by Billy the Kid’Tom Blyth and Lucy Gray Baird will be played by West Side Story’s Rachel Zegler. So far, there is no information about other cast members, if production has started, or if anyone from the original cast will come back to revive their character.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is set to be released on November 17, 2023. Francis Lawrence, who also directed The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and both parts of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, will be directing this prequel as well.
