Sony Pictures released a teaser of Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, featuring Shawn Mendes as the singing crocodile on Wednesday, June 22, ahead of its release.

The movie is an adaptation of Bernard Waber’s classic children’s book of the same name. The official Sony Pictures Twitter posted the teaser trailer with the caption “One little discovery, one giant adventure!”

The teaser features Lyle (Shawn Mendes), a friendly crocodile, singing along to Stevie Wonder’s “Sir Duke” as he bathes. It goes on to show Mrs. Primm (Constance Wu) who immediately screams in fear as she discovers the singing croc scrubbing his scales in her attic.

The movie illustrates the life of the Primm family who recently moved to New York City. When the son, Josh (Winslow Fegley), struggles to adapt to the new environment, he finds Lyle, who quickly becomes his best friend. Unlike Lyle’s threatening appearance as a wild reptile, he loves baths, caviar, and great music. The much-beloved crocodile rides in yellow cabs like any other New Yorker and sweeps the streets of NYC with his tail.

Valenti (Javier Bardem), “to show the world that family can come from the most unexpected places,” according to a press release for the film.

The 23-year-old singer shared his excitement to make his debut as the singing croc on his Instagram. Joining Mendes, the film also stars Constance Wu, Scoot McNairy, and Javier Bardem. The movie is directed and produced by Will Speck and Josh Gordon. It also features music written by the songwriting team of The Greatest Showman which Shawn Mendes will perform in the film.
