In an effort to continue celebrating women of color, MSNBC will air their second installment of The Culture Is. The upcoming second of four chapters is The Culture Is: Latina, hosted by One Day At a Time’s Justina Machado.

The Culture Is: Latina is an hour-long special that will discuss a number of topics from differences in Latina culture, finding identity within the culture, and the importance of Latinas using their power to vote. Machado and the panel will also discuss their experience in America and how being a Latina in the country has impacted them personally and professionally.

Machado will interview Emmy-Winning actress and activist Rosie Perez prior to the roundtable discussion. The round table special will feature several Latina creatives, including Julissa Arce (author of You Sound Like a White Girl: The Case for Rejecting Assimilation), Gloria Estefan (Grammy-Award Winning singer), Maria Hinojosa (Pulitzer Prize-Winning journalist and anchor, Latino USA), Bricia Lopez (author), Janel Martinez (Writer and Founder of Ain’t I Latina), Mónica Ramírez (President of the Latinx House), and Gina Torres (actress and producer).

In the first installment of The Culture Is: Jay Reid and Tiffany Cross hosted The Culture Is: Black Women, where creators like Robin Thede (A Black Lady Sketch Show) and journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones spoke about their experiences as a Black woman in America. MSNBC will wrap the series with The Culture Is: AAPI hosted by Katie Phang and The Culture Is: Indigenous Women hosted by Alyssa London.

President of MSNBC, Rashida Jones, is thrilled to continue this special as it opens up “thought-provoking dialogue” amongst the WOC communities. Jones stated, “The Culture Is amplifies our efforts to elevate diverse voices across MSNBC’s cable and streaming platforms…It puts women at the forefront to tell their own stories and share their experiences directly with audiences.”

The Culture Is: Latina will premiere on August 7 at 10:00 PM EST on the MSNBC hub and will be available on Peacock immediately after.
